College Teams, Riders Named for 39th Annual IHSA National Championships
(USEF) - The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships will host 25 teams representing the best college hunter seat and Western riders in the United States to qualify to compete in Raleigh, May 3-6, at the Hunt Horse Complex at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. Thoroughbred Horse Show Association Completes First Show Exclusively for Thoroughbreds
(USEF) - The Thoroughbred Horse Show Association's inaugural show on April 14 at the Kentucky Horse Park was a “great success,” said the organization's executive director, Jan Roehl. More than 100 Thoroughbreds competed in 39 classes from dressage, to hunter- jumper, to “in hand.” Horses were entered by their registered names with The Jockey Club, and participants recognized many notable horses. They included Train Robbery, the 25-year-old, Grade 3-winning dam of Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Cat Thief, and 2007 Kentucky Derby (G1) starter Sam P., an 8-year-old son of Cat Thief. Tragic Barn Fire Takes Lives of 21 Horses
(USEF) - An early morning fire tragically took the lives of 21 horses at the High Plains Stables, the Billings, Montana barn of USEA Area IX Chair, Martha McDowell. The entire facility in addition to all of Martha’s and her boarders’ equipment has been lost. A fund is being set up through Montana Equestrian Events, Inc, a 501c3 Non-Profit organization. U.S. Riders Produce Up-Beat Freestyles at the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage Final
(USEF) - The United States' two representatives produced solid, fun Freestyle tests this afternoon at the Indoor Brabant in the final round of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage Final. Jan Ebeling and Shawna Harding utilized the lessons learned in Friday's Grand Prix to produced better performances; both riders witnessed improved marks from the Grand Prix to the Freestyle. Ebeling (Moorpark, CA) put the mistakes of the previous day behind him and displayed an improved rhythm to score 69.875 for 15th place. Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival Victorious in 2012 Reem Acra FEI Dressage World Cup
Adelinde Cornelissen and Jerich Parzival defended their title in the 2012 Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage Final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. After taking the win in Friday's Grand Prix competition, the 32-year-old Dutch rider and the 15-year-old KWPN gelding won Saturday's Grand Prix Freestyle with a score of 86.250. Taking second in both the Grand Prix and the Freestyle was Germany’s Helen Langehanenberg riding Damon Hill. That pair's score in the Freestyle was 85.214. German Dressage Coach Holger Schmezer Dies at 65
(FEI) - Holger Schmezer, national coach of the German Dressage team since 2001, passed away suddenly in the Netherlands last night. The 65-year-old was found in his hotel room in 's-Hertogenbosch, venue of the Reem Acra FEI World Cup™ Dressage Final 2012, to which he had travelled with the three German riders competing in the event. Holger Schmezer was born in 1947, the son of a naval officer. At the age of 15, he discovered modern pentathlon and took particular interest in the equestrian element. Five Para Winter Champions Crowned in UK Competition
(British Dressage) - Five great, close fought competitions gave five well deserved winners in the Nirvana Spa Para classes at the NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships. The culmination of many months qualifying, plus the pressure of Paralympic selection, meant the riders had to pull out all the stops to have the edge – especially as the judge at C was Norway’s Kjell Myhre who’ll be on duty at Greenwich. Countdown to London 2012 Olympic Games Enters Final 100 Days
(FEI) - Today, 18 April, the world celebrates 100 days to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. This summer the British capital will play host to the Olympic Games for the third time in history. From 27 July to 12 August, London will welcome 10,500 athletes representing 204 National Olympic Committees for the 27th edition of the Summer Olympic Games. More than nine million tickets have already been sold to spectators around the world. The 2012 Games are hugely significant for the FEI as they mark the centenary of equestrian sports on the Olympic programme. Another Successful Markel/USEF Young Horse Training Session Takes Place in Texas
