The standard has been so strong out here and so pleased to come away with a second and a fifth!”

Fellow U25s rider, 23-year-old Bobby Hayler also contested in the CDIU25. Riding her mother’s 16-year-old Welt Hit-sired gelding, Valentino II in their first competition together away from British soil, Bobby claimed 13th in the U25 grand prix with a solid 63.44% and 11th in the freestyle with 66.95%.

Another first for Bobby at the Dutch-based competition was her first ever international senior grand prix in the CDI3*. Posting solid scores with Paul Hayler’s 13-year-old Rubioso N-sired stallion, Aldborough Rubenhall, the pair showed great promise for the future with 65.12% in the grand prix and 60.53% in their first ever grand prix special.

“Had the most amazing time at CHIO Rotterdam!” announced Bobby via the Team Hayler Facebook page. “I still can’t believe now that, at the age of 23, I got to do my first senior 3* Grand Prix against Edward Gal, Hans Peter, Anna Ross, Kirsten Beckers, the American team and Adelinde Cornelissen and Parzival! I would like to say a huge thank you to the World Class team for all their help and support!”

For the FEI Nations Cup, a team of four riders travelled with their equine partners to the Netherlands to represent GBR. Spencer Wilton, Hannah Biggs, Alice Oppenheimer and Hayley Watson-Greaves competed in the CDIO grand prix. Fresh from their win in the grand prix freestyle – their first international together – at Compiegne CDI3* Spencer and Julian Cournane’s athletic 14-year-old Negro-sired gelding, Numberto scored 69.46% in the grand prix, an improvement on their GP score at Compiegne, to place 15th.

Hannah Biggs impressed with her 16-year-old Welt Bogen stallion, Weltzin.
