Ottawa, ON, Dec. 21, 2017 – Equestrian Canada (EC) is pleased to announce that select 2018 EC Rules are now available online at www.equestrian.ca/programs-services/rules.

Following the close of the EC Rule Change Proposals (RCPs) review and comment period in November 2017, the EC Discipline Committees met to review the collected feedback and submit final amendments to the EC Board of Directors for approval.

The EC Board has approved the final 2018 EC Rules for the following sections, which are now available online in a clean digital version, as well as a version with changes from 2017 visible. Click on the links below to access the versions with changes visible:

Updates and noteworthy changes approved by the EC Board for 2018 are outlined below. All changes are effective Jan. 1, 2018. Hard copy rule books will be available for purchase through the EC e-store in early 2018.

Section A: General Regulations

The 2018 requirement for First Responder certification of medical personnel, a provision of A508 Emergencies has been cancelled. For 2018, there will be no changes to the level of medical personnel required at EC sanctioned competitions.

Section C: Driving

Due to substantial proposed changes that have been requested, the EC Board will require additional time to review Section C: Driving. The EC Board will reconvene in January 2018 and will continue the review and approval process at that time. Further updates and timelines will be provided as information becomes available.

Section D: Eventing

The final 2018 Rules for Section D: Eventing are delayed and have not yet been submitted for EC Board Review. The community will be notified when the final, approved versions are available online.

Section E: Dressage & Section M: Para-Equestrian

As of 2018, the rules for Para-Dressage formerly contained in Section M: Para-Equestrian, have been integrated into Section E: Dressage, Chapter 6.

Section G

Regarding Article G105 Stallions and G601 Pony Jumpers; the EC Jumping Committee was unanimous in its decision to disallow stallions in the EC Pony Jumper division. The Committee considered alignment with US Equestrian Pony Jumper Rules and safety in reaching its decision. The original intention to allow Junior A competitors to ride stallions was to align with the FEI and US Equestrian in the high jumper divisions and international competitions.
