(Equestrian Australia) – The DJWTS Grand Prix Freestyle (CDI-W), held last night, tested eleven of Australia’s leading Dressage combinations, with Queensland’s Chantal Wigan and Ferero coming out on top with a score of 71.225%. In second place was Olympian Mary Hanna (Vic) and Umbro with a score of 68.325%.
Chantal and her 12-year-old gelding Ferero have been in great form since returning to Australia last October after training in Europe for the past four years. They pair won the 2010 World Cup Final (Pacific League) and just last weekend won all the Grand Prix classes at the first CDI3* of the year at Boneo Park (Vic).
DJWTS was the first of five Dressage qualifying events for the 2011 Equestrian Grand Final. The next will be the Sydney CDI3* (28-30 April) at Sydney International Equestrian Centre, Horsley Park.
The first of the Jumping and Exhibition Eventing qualifiers will both be held at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in April. The Jumping (CSI-W) on 20 April and the first ever Exhibition Eventing class to be held at the show will be on 19 April.
